TOM Killick is urging his charges to prevent the rising of another “false dawn” when they travel to Gosport Borough on Wednesday night (kick-off 7.45pm).

Dolphins seemingly kick-started their season with a 5-0 thumping of Yate Town on Saturday, with five different goalscorers in the form of Wes Fogden, Tony Lee, Toby Holmes, Jake Andrews and Will Fletcher sending Poole to a first home win of the season.

Although Dolphins are unbeaten away from home, they sit in 13th place in the Southern League table.

An early exit out of the FA Cup after the budget was increased in the summer led to murmurings regarding stalwart Killick’s future as Poole boss.

However, Saturday’s big margin of victory has instantly seen a shift in mood at the BlackGold Stadium, but Killick was keen to stress how his side could not repeat the stop-start nature of their previous campaign.

When asked if Wednesday’s trip to fellow promotion hopefuls Gosport was important, Killick told the Daily Echo: “I think so, because we've always talked about if you want to actually establish yourselves, it's about sequences of results.

“Last year we would have a few false dawns after winning a game, and everyone would get a bit positive and then suddenly, next game we would go and get turned over.

“We've got to try and put a string of results together, particularly where we've had a bit of an indifferent start.

“So Wednesday, we know that Gosport are going to be powerful, particularly on their own pitch.

“Yate will probably feel, again, no disrespect to Yate, but they probably would feel that they were well below par (on Saturday).

“We think that Gosport will provide a very stern test on Wednesday and we need to try and back (Saturday’s win) up.”
