CHERRIES youngster Matt Burgess detailed Kevin De Bruyne as the star he models his game on the most, whilst also revealing a soft spot for former England captain Steven Gerrard.

Cherries’ development squad, including midfielder Burgess, take on Derby County in the Premier League cup on Friday evening at the Vitality Stadium (kick-off 7:00pm).

They currently top their group following an impressive 3-0 victory away at Burgess’ former club Brighton, where he was released as a 14-year-old.

Describing himself as “an attacking midfielder who can score goals and can win you games”, Burgess has previously played at the home of Cherries earlier this year, in a 2-2 draw with neighbours Southampton, coincidentally on his 19th birthday.

When asked by the Daily Echo which footballers he looks up to, the 19-year-old replied: “The obvious answer is Kevin De Bruyne for me.

“Obviously I think he's one of the best players in the world and he just has everything that I would want to have as a player as well.”

The former Brighton man also had praise for current Aston Villa boss and Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard.

Detailing his admiration of the former England star, Burgess added: “For me, he's just got everything as a player.

“His passing is incredible, his shooting, fantastic. He's a fantastic leader as well. So, yeah, he's a player that I idolised growing up.”

Ahead of Friday's clash, over 1300 tickets had already been sold, with the young Cherries keen to see a bumper crowd in support.

With tickets available on the gate for the fixture, Burgess is hoping that Cherries fans will be in attendance to help spur their future stars on.

He added: “The crowd is like a 12th man. The atmosphere is brilliant when they get going. So, yes, it's really good.”
