SUPER Scott Joyce struck a first half double as Wimborne Town put one foot firmly in the Sydenhams Wessex League Cup final.

The prolific forward boosted his already impressive tally for the season as Magpies ran out comfortable 3-0 winners at Horndean in the first leg of their semi-final tie last night.

And once Steve Moore had added a third late on, Wimborne's place in the final against either Moneyfields or Fareham Town, who drew 0-0, was all but guaranteed.

Despite earning the victory, Wimborne player-boss Christer Warren did not rate the standard of the match particularly highly.

"It was possibly the worst game I've ever been involved in," he admitted.

"There was no quality whatsoever. It was just a battle.

"But I'm over the moon with the lads' attitude to go to this place on a Tuesday night and put in a performance like that.

"A lot of people said we can't play against teams that are physical and we've proved a lot of people wrong."

Warren was quick to pay tribute to his star striker.

He said: "Joycey looked really sharp and took his goals really well."

The second leg is due to be played at Cuthbury on Tuesday, March 18.

Wimborne Town: Walker-Harris, Jones, Phillipson-Masters, Percival, Woods (Moore, h-t), Warren, James, McCormick, Arnold (Vavrecka, 60), Joyce, Whitcher.
