BASHLEY boss Steve Riley is hoping his side's attractive brand of football can attract more fans to the Recreation Ground after the New Foresters consolidated their position in the play-off places.

Midfielder Craig Davis had a hand in all three goals as Bash saw off the challenge of Yate Town on Saturday.

And with nearest rivals King's Lynn, Team Bath, Chippenham, Halesowen, Brackley and Hemel Hempstead all failing to win at the weekend, Riley's troops have a four-point cushion in fifth place.

They also closed the gap on the Southern League Premier Division's top four in the process.

Boss Riley paid tribute to the support received by his team and he thinks the on-field success could help bring in more punters on matchdays.

He said: "The fans were brilliant again. There was a big buzz around the ground and a good crowd.

"Vocally they are superb behind the goal and it's getting bigger and louder, so that's fantastic.

"People are working hard off the park as well as on it. We've got a great bunch. They get behind the team and it makes a difference.

"It's nice to see them in the bar afterwards with big smiles. It's good for the lads and we really appreciate it.

"When you're playing good football it gets the crowds in - word gets round.

"Hopefully we can get a few more through the turnstiles."

Riley was pleased with the win against Yate, which owed much to the contribution of Davis.

He opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the third minute, having been made to take the spot-kick twice because the ball moved in the wind on his first successful effort. The midfielder then set up Moss in the 55th minute before completing the scoring from Richard Gillespie's assist.

"We played some good stuff at times but you could call it scrappy," Riley told the Daily Echo.

"They're a good side and on a good run at the moment, so they came into the game with confidence.

"But we had two away victories on the bounce so we were confident as well."

Gary Middleton returned to the Bash side after completing his loan spell at Andover, while new signing Lloyd Webber, recruited from Gosport Borough, was not included in the 16.

Bashley: Elm, Gazzard, Ferrett, Castle, Middleton, Knowles, Smith, Davis, Town, Moss (Keeler, 85), Gillespie. Unused subs: Sainsbury, Hardwell, Hollick, Riley.
