NEIL Moss believes his future lies in goalkeeping coaching once he hangs up his gloves, although he admits it makes a "poor substitute" compared to playing.

The homegrown Cherries star, who has been plagued by injury this season, has taken on some coaching duties since fracturing his wrist in January.

And he is enjoying putting the club's other keepers - Gareth Stewart and Ryan Pryce - through their paces. But he would prefer to be between the sticks himself.

"I'm taking Gareth and Ryan and I'm enjoying doing that and the centre of excellence, but nothing beats playing," Moss told the Daily Echo.

"It's a poor substitute but at least it keeps me busy.

"Every player looks to try and stay in the game in some capacity. I haven't got too much idea about outfield but what I know is goalkeeping.

"I know how to train them and I know what a good one has to be like. I think that's where my ambitions want to be.

"I'd never done it full-time before the last month. It's a bit different to do sessions on a daily basis.

"I've enjoyed it but you would have to ask Gareth and Ryan!"

Barton-on-Sea born Moss got the nod to take over the goalkeeper coaching duties after Stuart Murdoch left the club and took up a role as chief scout at Millwall.

And Moss thinks it is helping him get back on the road to fitness.

He said: "It's surprising, it's quite hard work. You have to do a lot of kicking so it keeps my fitness up and it is beneficial to be kicking the ball every day.

"It makes it easier to get back into the run of things."

But the popular 32-year-old admitted he has concerns about the speed of his recovery. He was hoping to have been further down the line at this stage, having fractured the scaphoid in his right wrist as he attempted to save a shot from Brett Pitman in the warm-up ahead of Cherries' game against Cheltenham on January 12.

"It's not coming on as quickly as I would have hoped in the six weeks after the operation," said Moss. "I was hoping for more progress but I won't know until Monday."

The stopper will see his surgeon for an assessment on Monday and he was due to visit a hand physio last night.
