RINGWOOD Town started their campaign with a bang as they defeated Fleet Spurs 4-2 on the opening day of the Wessex Division One season, but the biggest hitter was definitely Joss Holford.

The central midfielder opened his account for the season in outstanding fashion, smashing home from his own half.

After cutting out Spurs’ goalkeeper Jack Coleman’s clearance, Holford noticed that he was out of position.

He quickly capitalised, striking a sweet volley that flew into the back of the net – with the camera unable to keep up with the strike.

Holford’s screamer gave Ringwood a 2-1 lead after first-half goals from Patrick Correia and Spurs’ Thomas White.

The away side equalised via White five minutes after Holford’s wonder goal, but a grandstand finish from the hosts saw Correia and sub Charlie Hitchings score two goals in the final 10 minutes to seal victory.

Opening day victory places Richard Morse’s charges fifth in the embryonic league table.
