BOSS Scott Parker hailed Marcus Tavernier's Cherries debut as "superb", admitting he was unsure whether to throw him straight in from the start against Aston Villa.

The 23-year-old only arrived this week, signing for a reported £10million from Middlesbrough.

But he was thrown straight into action, starting in an advanced midfield position, supporting centre-forward Kieffer Moore to make his first appearance in the top flight.

And Tavernier impressed, producing a lively display before being withdrawn with four minutes to play.

Cherries closed out a 2-0 victory, thanks to goals from Jefferson Lerma and Kieffer Moore, to secure a perfect start to their Premier League campaign.

Discussing Tavernier's debut display, Parker told the Daily Echo: "I thought he was superb. I thought he was brilliant.

"He’s only been in the building for a week. I was half and half whether to play him today, because obviously he’s not been in for a long time.

"But in a short space of time he’s showed his qualities and his attributes, what he is going to bring to this team. I think you see that today.

"Set plays of course, some lovely deliveries and then his general play as well. A real threat for us on the counters at times. Powerful, technical. I was pleased for him really."
