DOLPHINS boss Tom Killick may repeat the experiment that saw Luke Holmes and Jack Dickson feature in unfamiliar positions during pre-season.

Dickson, predominately a right-back, starred as a centre-half, whilst Holmes, usually a forward-minded midfielder, impressed at wing-back, as Poole saw off National South Weymouth at the weekend.

Whilst Poole have strengthened across the pitch this summer, they are yet to add another defender to the squad, leading to the decision to try Holmes and Dickson out of position.

Stalwart Killick admitted that there would perhaps have been "initial eyebrow raises", he shared that he was impressed by what he had seen.

He told the Daily Echo: "I think if you think about it, Jack is a right back.

"It's not a huge ask to get him to play in the right side of a three.

"We just wanted to have some attacking threat and some mobility in that area, we wanted to have a little look at that.

"Luke is technically a very good player, worked very hard.

"So, again, it might not be his absolute best position, but certainly a position I think he can do reasonably well in.

"It was just having a little look at things.

"But I think if you mention those, I'd agree with you in terms of there might be initial eyebrow raises.

"I was just about to say Jack excelled, but that means Luke didn't, but I just thought they were both very good."

Killick also issued an update on Wes Fogden, Poole's marquee summer signing. Fogden came off just before half-time in the win over Weymouth, with his manager revealing the unusual injury behind his substitution.

"He’s got this awful bloody blister," mentioned Killick.

"Sort of frustrating because he's fit as a butcher’s dog, he's ready to go, but he's got this blister.

"So thankfully, the Shaftesbury game (was) mainly under-23s, so we can take him out of the firing line a little bit with it, and then hopefully it will be a lot better for Saturday."
