DANNY Ford admitted he was “really surprised” by the dazzling form of Danyon Hume this season, having left him out of Pirates’ team plans for 2022.

The 25-year-old was part of Poole’s septet which sealed a league and cup double last season, having taken up the rising star berth in the squad for 2021.

But after not being a part of this season’s Pirates, Hume has made a home at Glasgow – Poole’s opposition at Wimborne Road tomorrow (7.30pm).

Hume has also taken his chance in the SGB Premiership with title-chasing Ipswich Witches, having worked his way into the team after originally signing for them as a number eight.

“He is really kicking on this season, Danyon,” said Ford when asked about the Buckinghamshire-born charger.

“I am actually really surprised with how well he is doing and fair play to him. He wasn’t in our plans for this year but he is kind of showing us that we were wrong.

“He has upped his averages and is making a bit of a name for himself.

“It’s great to see. He’s a really good lad and I wish him all the best – but not too much of that on Wednesday!”
