POOLE manager Tom Killick would love to see Teddy Davey in black and gold next season – but the Dolphins stalwart admitted geography was against him.

Davey initially joined the Southern League Premier South outfit on loan from Premier League Southampton last season, with his spell at the BlackGold Stadium impacted by COVID and injury.

Released by Saints this summer, Davey is now available to link up with Poole permanently, but there is a major roadblock in what appears to be a simple deal thanks to mutual interest.

After departing Southampton’s academy, Davey has returned to his native Surrey, severely impacting Poole’s chances in securing the services of the talented midfielder.

Speaking about the situation with the Guildford-based Davey, Killick told the Daily Echo: “Teddy is someone I've got a lot of time for.

“I feel he's got a lot of talent. The one thing that's against us at the moment is he's living back in Surrey with his family.

“He was in digs in Southampton, but he's been released from Southampton, so he's now back with his family in Guildford.

“So the geography is slightly against us, but as a person and a player, I'd love if we can organise something to have him back, that'd be great.”

Davey made the three-hour round trip to appear for Poole in a pre-season win over Hamworthy Recreation last Thursday, action representing the 19-year-old’s first taste of football since injury curtailed his season in April.

“He's not done any training,” continued Killick.

“So he's not kicked a ball since he got injured for us in training a few weeks before the end of the season.

“He was understandably a bit rusty, but if we could resolve or sort something with him, if it was possible, then I'd be very open to that.”
