WIMBORNE Town have pounced to sign youngster Aaron Roberts after his release from Cherries.

Midfielder Roberts had concluded last campaign on loan at New Cuthbury, playing 13 times and scoring once in the league.

A self-professed central-midfielder, Dorchester-born Roberts can also operate on the wing or in defence as a full-back.

Roberts came through the ranks at Cherries to secure a professional deal with the club, but the Blandford-raised player was deemed surplus to requirements at the conclusion of this season.

Manager James Stokoe told the club website: “Aaron joining gives us a young, hungry player who is very versatile - he can play in three, four positions which gives us good options.

“We think he has a lot of talent from the games he played on loan last season and will be looking to progress back up the ladder.”

Aaron Roberts himself added: “After having a really enjoyable loan spell with the club last season, and speaking with the manager about the ambition of the club for the upcoming season, my decision was made quite easy!

“It’s a great club with fantastic facilities, people and fans and I can’t wait to get going and help get the club back where it belongs.”
