BOURNEMOUTH Bears’ Single A side continued their good form, picking up two wins away to the Bristol Buccaneers.

The two wins move Bears to 7-3 on the season - keeping up the pressure on Cardiff Merlins I at the top of the Severn division.

After their third drive to Somerdale this season, the Bears’ bats got going quickly, putting up 13 runs in the first three innings.

Manny Baez, Marcus Senior and Andy Swann picked up RBIs in the first inning, with Swann showing skill to get the ball down on a bunt.

The home side fought back in the third inning, but not after Baez, Pete Datlen, Mitch Sullivan and Andy Moore had all driven in runs.

On the mound Pete Datlen picked up his second win of the season as he held the Buccaneers to four hits through three innings, striking out a batter in the process.

Moore came in to pitch the final two innings, recording his first strikeout and scoreless inning as a Bear with the help of some fine work at Catcher from Artie Herbert.

The play of the day came on the final play of the first game. Henry McNamara hit a ball to the outfield for the home side, Shaun Barrett threw it into Baez, who got it into Moore and Herbert who made the tag at home plate to prevent the home side picking up an ‘inside the park’ home run. The game finished 14-8.

Game two saw the Bears come out of the blocks quickly again, as they put up 11 runs in the first three innings. That didn’t tell the full story as Sam Stainsby looked strong on the mound for the home side to strike out a couple of Bears through the first two innings.

Marcus Senior pitched the whole game for Bournemouth, continuing his strong early season form on the way to his fourth win of the campaign. The tall right-hander struck out eight Buccs’ batters on 120 pitches.

At the plate, Datlen showed off the burners as he capitalised on an error to round the bases in one go to add to the Bears’ total. Leigh Froud picked up two runs after showing discipline to draw a couple of walks and Senior hit a strong triple deep to centre field.

However, the loudest cheers of the day came for Jade Bailey who scored her first run as a Bear after drawing a walk in the sixth inning.

Manager, Warren Doyle, awarded her the player of the day as the Bears won the game 17-7.

Bears face no games over the Bank Holiday weekend.
