JAMES Hill has been called up for England’s under-21s.

The 20-year-old has been named in a 24-man squad for the Young Lions’ final EURO 2023 qualifiers.

January signing Hill, who joined from League One Fleetwood Town, had previously represented the under-20 side on four occasions.

With no fixtures for the under-20s this summer, defender Hill has been promoted to the under-21 side.

Lee Carsley’s side will play four qualifiers over the course of June, with the Young Lions well-poised to snatch first-place in their qualifying group.

They travel to current leaders Czechia on Friday, June 3, before hosting Albania in Chesterfield on Tuesday, June 7.

A trip to Albania’s neighbours Kosovo follows on Friday, June 10 ahead of the final fixture in Huddersfield against Slovenia on Monday, June 13.

Since signing for Cherries, Hill has made just two appearances, starting once in the FA Cup and coming off the bench against Barnsley.

Notable inclusions in the side include Arsenal starlet Emile Smith Rowe, who has three caps for the senior side, and reported Cherries targets, goalkeeper Josef Bursik and winger Keane Lewis-Potter.
