RESERVE rocket Drew Kemp revealed how Danny King helped him throughout his fledgling career but insisted: “He is probably getting sick of me by now!”

Kemp has enjoyed an impressive start to his time at Pirates, recording double-figure scores in each of the club’s competitive home meetings.

He has ridden alongside Poole skipper King at both Ipswich and Sheffield before linking up again with the former British champion at Wimborne Road.

The Great Britain youth international told the Daily Echo: “I have spent fair bit of time with Danny. When I turned 16 in 2018, I was riding for Ipswich, which he was doing the whole year.

“In 2019 I spent a year with him at Sheffield and again with him in 2021 riding for Ipswich.

“I have spent a fair few years with him. He has seen quite a bit of me – he is probably getting sick of me by now!

“But he has been there to help me out and he really has. I was struggling a little bit with bikes in 2019 and he let me stay at his for a night.

“I went to his workshop and him and his mechanic took me through a few things.

“You need riders like Danny in speedway and that’s the reason why the youngsters are coming on so well – because of riders like him.

“It’s great to work with him again. Hopefully I can have a good year with him this year and score a few 5-1s with him.”

Kemp and King are both set to line up for Poole against Birmingham Brummies at Wimborne Road tomorrow (7.30pm).
