BOURNEMOUTH Bears' new Single A boss Warren Doyle got off to a dream start with a brace of victories over Bristol Brunels.

Doyle's side won 18-2 and 8-6 at Somerdale Pavilion in the British Baseball South West & Wales League.

Bears got on base quickly, with Doyle leading off with a single, before stealing both second and third and coming home for the score.

This set the tone as the Bears lineup put 18 runs on the board over the next five innings.

Marcus Senior pitches three scoreless innings, striking out six batters.

The second game was far more competitive, with Brunels’ pitcher Jake Boyer in fine form on the mound.

Bears’ pitcher Pete Datlen matched Boyer through the first four innings, allowing no runs, striking out three and issuing no walks before being replaced by Rhiannon McMah in the fifth.

Offensively, the Bears got going in the fourth with Mitch Sullivan on base, driven home by Datlen. Dani Vinkler and McMah drove in two more to put the visitors in a good spot.

After the two sides exchanged runs over the next few innings, the game was tied 4-4 going into the top of the seventh.

Olivia Burlinson was hit by a pitch, before stealing her way to third. She was driven in by Andy Moore and the bats of Manuel Baez, Sullivan and Senior helped to add three more runs as the Bears sealed the victory.

McMah was named as manager's player of the day.

Meanwhile in the Triple A home fixtures, Bears began with a 5-2 win over Bristol Badgers.

However, they were well beaten in the second fixture of the day at Ferndown Leisure Centre, losing out 14-3.
