FORMER Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson has claimed that the Anfield club will make “big money” selling on-loan Cherries star Nat Phillips.

The 24-year-old centre-back will remain at Vitality Stadium for the rest of the campaign after arriving at the Championship challengers on deadline day.

The Englishman has made 24 first-team appearances for the Kop outfit since his FA Cup debut in 2020, including five in the Champions League.

Reds have received eight-figure fees for the likes of Jordon Ibe, Dominic Solanke and Rhian Brewster in recent years, and Lawrenson believes Phillips could be the next fringe player sold for a good price.

“You get some players who come in, I mean Nat Phillips, he did really really well and he’s gone to Bournemouth on loan and they’ll sell him, and they’ll sell him for big money,” he told Off The Ball.

“This is something Arsene Wenger used to do, he’d bring promising players through, play them in the first-team before deciding they weren’t at the level.

“Then people would come in to buy them and you can say ‘he’s played 15 games in the Premier League’ and hike up the price.

“Liverpool have locked onto that in the last few years and some of the sales have been outstanding.”
