MATCHWINNER Siriki Dembele detailed his delight at grabbing a late goal away at Blackpool, sharing how happy he was that Cherries’ travelling support were rewarded for their efforts.

It appeared that the 584-mile round trip had been for naught when Cherries were approaching the closing stages of the game at Bloomfield Road chasing a 1-0 deficit, after Josh Bowler opened scores with a screamer, but goals from substitute Jamal Lowe and Dembele swiftly turned the game on its head and sent the travelling support of 827 into raptures.

A deadline day signing from strugglers Peteborough, Dembele was handed his first start for Cherries ahead of kick off.

Throughout the game he kept Blackpool defenders on their toes, eventually proving the difference with his 95th minute strike.

Speaking to the Daily Echo after the game, Dembele revealed that when he arrived into the box with the ball at his feet, he only ever had one intention.

He stated: “My first touch was to shoot. I was not passing that at all!

“So I'm glad it went in or else, some people would be saying I should have gone at this and that.

“I'm very happy it went in and we got the winner, and I'm very happy for the fans as well because they travelled a long way. (It was a) great win.”

Last-gasp victory for Cherries ensure they keep the gap between themselves and league leaders Fulham to four points, whilst also converting one of the two games in hand they enjoyed over third place Blackburn.

The Dorset club now have 58 points from 30 games, with the extra boon of a five points gap over Blackburn - and another game in hand.

They return to action next Friday, when they host Nottingham Forest at the Vitality Stadium.
