SIRIKI Dembele marked his full debut for Cherries with a last-gasp winner away at Bloomfield Road.

In a game of very few chances, a late charge from the Dorset club gave them a 2-1 win.

Cherries trailed for large swathes of the game, after a Josh Bowler stunner had given Blackpool the advantage near the end of the first-half.

A huge opportunity to take the lead was missed after 24 minutes when Dom Solanke fluffed his lines from the spot, before Blackpool’s Bowler struck a sublime effort past Mark Travers.

Whilst the hosts looked likeliest to score in the second period, substitute Lowe equalised with four minutes to go, tapping home after a cross into the box.

The game then turned into an end-to-end affair, with Cherries landing the knockout blow through Dembele.

Scott Parker’s men knew no matter the result at the final whistle they would not budge from second place, with Cherries unable to leapfrog league leaders Fulham, whilst third-place Blackburn were not in action.

Two changes were made to the side that beat Birmingham in midweek, with Lewis Cook replacing the suspended Jefferson Lerma.

Siriki Dembele was handed a full debut for his new club, with the January signing a livewire throughout.

The opening exchanges indicated that the game was not going to be of the highest quality, with neither side able to ask questions in an attacking sense.

Halfway through the first half Cherries were gifted a golden opportunity to open scores from the spot, after Jaidon Anthony was bundled over in the box by Jordan Gabriel.

Cherries’ leading goalscorer Solanke opted for a stuttered run-up, tamely placing his effort into the midriff of Daniel Grimshaw, who quickly claimed the loose ball.

Whilst Grimshaw’s save sent Bloomfield Road bouncing with joy, the change in atmosphere did not reflect on the pitch.

The game remained scrappy and devoid of quality, with neither side truly testing either goalkeeper.

That remained true until the 37th minute, when former Cherries transfer target Bowler opened the scores with a curling effort on the edge of the area.

Blackpool probed Cherries down the left-hand flank, with the loose ball falling kindly for the mercurial winger.

Without hesitation Bowler let fly, curling the ball beyond the reach of Travers and into the far corner of the net.

The opener certainly galvanised the home crowd, firmly helping their side to take control of the game.

Bowler came close again with three first-half minutes remaining, with Travers getting enough on the ball to send it away from his goal.

The onrushing Jerry Yates came agonisingly close to getting something on it to send it goalwards, but Cherries managed to enter the break just the one goal behind.

In the second period Cherries came up with the half’s first real chance, with Philip Billing blasting over after a mazy Dembele run from the left wing.

Blackpool almost made it two, with Bowler again proving his threat. Chaos in the box eventually lead to the ball falling kindly for Bowler, who was only denied by Travers at full stretch, with the Cherries ‘keeper needing to get both hands to send the strike away from his goal.

Unable to produce much of their own when going forward, Cherries had the woodwork to thank after CJ Hamilton smacked the stanchion with another long-range effort for Blackpool.

Todd Cantwell came closest for Cherries when he flung a dipping effort towards goal, with Grimshaw getting just enough to tip it over the bar.

As the game approached the final 10 minutes Travers again had to stretch to keep the scoreline at 1-0, with the Irish international spreading himself to somehow deny a Gary Madine header at point-blank range.

But it was substitute Lowe who got the game’s second goal, arriving in the box to nestle a Dembele cross into the back of the net and restore parity for Parker’s charges.

With the scorelines level, both sides played the remaining time and additional five minutes at breakneck speed, trying to find a winner.

It would be Cherries who would claim the three points in the 95th minute, with Dembele capping off a strong individual performance by firing past Grimshaw.
