GOALSCORER Jaidon Anthony has admitted that he did not think he would be scoring the numbers he is in the Championship so early in his career – but added: “I knew I had the quality to do it.”

The 22-year-old Cherries academy graduate struck his seventh goal of the Championship campaign and his first since November in the 3-1 win over Birmingham City.

He has hit those numbers having only made five substitute senior appearances in his career, up until the start of this season.

Under Scott Parker, the charismatic winger has gone from strength to strength with a bit of confidence and support behind him.

Asked by the Daily Echo if he imagined the season would be going how it is on a personal level, he revealed: “If I’m honest, no.

“But I knew I had the quality to do it, I just needed the chance.

“I’m grateful that I have had a lot of playing time this year and I’m able to help the team in any way I can.

“It’s not just goals, it’s working off the ball and everything so I’m grateful for the opportunities.”

Anthony’s notch was Cherries’ third of the match and came late to quash any hopes of a Brum comeback.

With the result on a knife edge and Birmingham hoping to rally after Onel Fernandez’s deflected shot brought them back into proceedings, Anthony rode three challenges to stick beyond Neil Etheridge and wrap up three points.

He admits it was a vital result to bounce back from the humiliating FA Cup elimination at the hands of National League Boreham Wood at the weekend.

“Yeah, yeah. We obviously, everyone, was disappointed with the way the game went,” the youngster added.

“We were disappointed with the performance and the result and we had to analyse it, but our full focus was on this game afterwards.

“We wanted to come out and put on a good show on Wednesday.”
