JAIDON Anthony insisted that goalkeeper Mark Travers has “been like that all season” after his impressive showing versus Birmingham City.
The 22-year-old Republic of Ireland international was called upon late to keep the Midlands visitors at bay during the 3-1 win on Wednesday.
He produced a superb footed-stop to deny former Cherry Lyle Taylor in the closing stages – his highlight of the match.
Although Onel Fernandez’s deflected effort had meant there would be no clean sheet on that occasion, the Cherries academy graduate already has 12 in the Championship this campaign.
“He’s been like that all season, if I’m being honest,” goalscorer Anthony said of his shot-stopper.
“Today was another top performance from him and he helped us stay in the game.”
Travers now faces competition from deadline day loan arrival Freddie Woodman, who has vast experience at the top end of the Championship from two spells with Swansea City.
Dominic Solanke, who netted the second of the game and his 19th league strike of the season, added: “Travs has been really good this season, we’re lucky to have him in goal.”
Travers almost put the jewel in the crown with a late long-kick that nearly evaded Brum keeper Neil Etheridge.
It would not be the first time he has scored, having netted for Weymouth inside his own half on his senior debut back in 2017.
Travers also scored a last-minute header in the 2020-21 Hampshire FA Senior Cup final versus Eastleigh to take it to penalties for a young Cherries side.
With basically the last touch of the @HampshireFA Senior Cup Final 🙃

Might have enjoyed capturing this angle of it a bit more otherwise... https://t.co/qm0WbK12ux pic.twitter.com/4Kj3ES2hNZ
“I don’t know if it was a shot but it wasn’t a bad effort,” Solanke joked.
Anthony added: “Yeah, he’s done that for Weymouth, I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw it again.”
