A TRIO of loan signings on deadline day has produced a slight headache for Scott Parker and Cherries – with the south coast club now unable to name all of their borrowed players in a match day squad.
EFL rules state that clubs cannot select more than five loan players in a matchday squad, meaning Parker will have to omit at least one loanee in each game for the rest of the season.
The exact wording of the ruling states: “A maximum of 5 Players registered on a Temporary Loan Transfer can be named in the Players listed on a Team Sheet for any individual match played under the auspices of The League.”
With the additions of Todd Cantwell, Freddie Woodman and Nat Phillips, Cherries now have six loanees at the club. Ethan Laird, Leif Davis and Morgan Rogers are also temporary players.
It was expected that Cherries’ potential headache would be alleviated by Manchester City recalling Rogers, but in the end the Premier League club did not pull the trigger.
Whilst arguably an issue most managers would love to have, Parker has the task now of balancing playing time, keeping parent clubs happy – and most importantly, steering Cherries back to the Premier League.
