NAT Phillips was one of five deadline day arrivals at Cherries – with the Liverpool defender revealing that the flurry of activity “just excites” players.

Cherries' new centre-half also stated that he was "really excited" about the club's ambition of promotion.

The 24-year-old had been linked with a host of Premier League clubs, but decided to join Scott Parker’s men on the south coast in a bid for more game time.

In an interview with Cherries’ website, the centre-half also revealed how the move evolved throughout the window.

Phillips told AFCB TV: “I think interest has been sort of growing throughout the window and it was an option that I was really excited about because of the club's ambition.

“I've heard a lot of good things about the club, so I'm very happy to be here and I'm looking forward to getting started.

“I've had a look at the fixtures coming up, some of the past fixtures and a little scan over the history, but like you say, it has been a busy transfer window and I think that's reflective of the club's aspirations, which as a player just excites you.”

After being parachuted into the Liverpool team after an injury crisis in the second half of last season, Phillips has only made three senior appearances this campaign for the Reds.

Phillips iterated just how important he felt it was to be playing as much football as possible, whilst also focusing on repaying the faith shown in him by helping Cherries for the remainder of the season.

“I've had a period now where I've not seen a great deal of football or minutes, and obviously as a player, that's what you want to be doing,” continued Phillips.

“You want to be playing games. I'm hoping that coming here, I'll get that opportunity to do so and then the club has given me that opportunity. Hopefully I can repay it with some good performances.

“I'm just really excited to start playing games again, contribute to the team and do whatever I can for the club.

“I think that's just obviously a reflection of the role that I was playing up until now at Liverpool, which is down to the high competition at the club.

“Obviously it's difficult to get games when the competition is so high.

“So again, I'm excited to be here so that hopefully I can get a better run of games and more minutes.”

The Bolton-born defender also revealed his major ambition during his stint in Dorset – achieving promotion with Cherries.

“Promotion - I think it's that simple, really,” he added.

“The club's got a clear goal. The players are obviously all players are wanting to play in the Premier League and promotion is the way to do that.

“So, I think we've all got that clear, common goal of achieving promotion, and we'll all be doing everything we can to make sure you achieve that.”
