CHERRIES have released goalkeeper Orjan Nyland, less than six months after signing him.

The Norway international arrived as a free agent in August, to provide competition to Mark Travers.

But the 31-year-old did not have the best of times during his brief spell on the south coast.

Nyland endured a nightmare debut, losing 6-0 in the EFL Cup against his former club Norwich City.

Travers has played all-but one Championship match so far this season.

The only one he missed was due to illness, with Nyland stepping in and keeping a clean sheet in a goalless draw at Hull City.

He only appeared once more after August, coming in for the FA Cup clash at non-league Yeovil Town in early January.

Nyland's mistake led to a goal for Joe Quigley, although Cherries did go on to win 3-1.

But that proved to be Nyland's final appearance for Cherries.

The Norwegian stopper suffered a calf injury last week, which is set to rule him out for six to eight weeks.

That prompted Cherries into the transfer market, signing Freddie Woodman on loan from Newcastle United on deadline day.

And following Woodman's arrival, Nyland has now been released.

However, Cherries have confirmed he will be allowed to continue to train at Vitality Stadium, whilst he searches for a new club.

A statement from Cherries read: "AFC Bournemouth and Orjan Nyland have agreed to a termination of the goalkeeper’s contract with immediate effect.

"Everyone at the club would like to thank Orjan for his hard work during his time with the club, and wish him the very best for the future."
