BOSS Scott Parker insists Cherries are “edging a little bit closer” on a “couple of things” as the clock ticks down to the end of the January transfer window.

The Cherries head coach has signalled his hope of strengthening his side before Monday’s 11pm deadline.

The likes of Joe Rothwell, Siriki Dembele, Kieffer Moore and Tom Lawrence have all been linked with moves to Vitality Stadium in recent weeks.

Parker insisted club chiefs were “trying relentlessly” to get fresh faces in the door and boost their hopes of promotion back to the Premier League this season.

Asked if there had been any breakthroughs since earlier in the week, the Cherries boss said: “Not really, not at the moment there hasn’t.

“There’s a couple of things which are edging a little bit closer – but nothing that I can say is concrete.

“Hopefully something will be done in the coming days.”

Asked whether there was any message he could give to fans ahead of the window closing, Parker added: “We are trying relentlessly to try to help the team. We’re trying to bring in players to do that.

“Hopefully we can but if Monday comes and we’ve not managed to do that, one thing I can explain to the fans is that it wouldn’t have been through the want of trying.

“People are literally doing all they can at this present moment in time, which is a difficult market, to try to help the team, support the team in areas we think we need support.

“Hopefully that can happen in the next couple of days.”
