POOLE Town boss Tom Killick is calling upon his charges to be “relentless” in their continued hunt for the Southern League Premier South playoffs, believing there to be little “margin for error” in what he describes as “a huge week”.

Dolphins’ promotion push looked dead in the water when they slumped to defeat away at lowly Beaconsfield Town at the start of December, losing top goalscorer Tony Lee to injury in the process.

However, the Dolphins are currently unbeaten in four league games, winning their last three matches on the bounce even without a recognised striker in the side.

Killick had previously stated Poole required “unbelievable effort” in order to salvage their campaign, and whilst the Dolphins legend was pleased with the progress made, he believes his side still have an up-hill battle ahead of them.

The Poole manager told the Daily Echo: “We’ve got to have the mentality that we’ve got to be capable of fighting for every point, irrespective of our league position.

“I would hope that people wouldn't see a discernible difference between our approach to a game, if we were languishing in mid-table and completely out-of-touch with the playoffs, then if we were in the playoffs themselves.

“I think that you would expect your group to have a bit of professional pride and just want to fight to win any game.

“But in terms of the league table – I’ve said it before, we are still fighting. We know that we haven't got much margin for error.

“We've won three games on the spin, but we're still in the position where we need to do a lot more to probably really consider ourselves back in contention.”

Dolphins sit 15 points behind league leaders Farnborough after playing one game more than the Hampshire outfit, whilst early pacesetters Hayes & Yeading are in third, eight points ahead of Poole but with three games in hand.

“I think the difficulty with the league table is it is looking as if the top three are going to be quite difficult to catch - certainly Farnborough and Hayes & Yeading,” continued Killick.

“If you do put Met Police into that bracket, then suddenly you’ve only got two (playoff) places left, they are occupied at the moment by Taunton and Weston-super-Mare, and we’ve got less points and played more games than both those teams.

“On top of that, you've got your Cheshams, your Truros, your Gosports, that are all desperate to try and fight for those last two positions. So to say it's a hugely competitive is a bit of an understatement, but we feel a lot more confident about ourselves and a lot more positive about what we're capable of now than we did a few weeks ago.

“But where we've been undone in the past is we perhaps, just lost a little bit of focus and lost an understanding of what is required to get us those run of results and then suddenly you have blips.

“We can't afford that, we can't afford blips now.

“So we've got to just be relentless. We’ve got (games) Saturday, Tuesday, and Saturday, so it's just a huge week for us.”

Killick and Co. travel to London this weekend to take on Hendon, who sit some way behind Dolphins in 14th place after an inconsistent season so far.

Victory for Dolphins could potentially take them level on points with Yate Town, who occupy the final playoff spot after victory Wednesday evening over Tiverton.
