SCOTT Parker described as “devastating” his side’s 3-2 defeat against Luton Town, with the decisive blow coming with virtually the final kick of the game.

Kal Naismith’s stunning strike in stoppage time saw the Hatters defeat promotion-chasing Cherries in a thrilling contest at Kenilworth Road.

After leading 2-0 at the break and then seeing Cherries hit back via Emiliano Marcondes and Morgan Rogers to level during the second period, it looked like the spoils would be shared until Naismith took aim from 20 yards and found the bottom corner.

Cherries’ players were left with their heads in their hands at the final whistle, some sinking to the ground after an agonising end to the contest.

Parker told the Daily Echo: “It is devastating.

“I thought first half we gave ourselves a mountain to climb going two goals down. One which looked like an own goal, the second one from 30 yards.

“For bits in the first half I liked us but then I felt we got to the final third and really just petered out and didn't cause them many problems.

“Through the first phase, we got up to the attacking part of the pitch very well but didn't have enough about us in those moments.

“Then in the second half, we showed unbelievable character and quality.

“The subs comin on made a difference and got ourselves to 2-2. After that, I thought we were right in the ascendancy. I thought we had momentum with us.

“But it didn't pan out like that. At that point the game becomes quite neutral and then they score with literally the last kick of the game which is obviously devastating.

“I'm not sure we did enough to win the game. Certainly, I didn't feel we did enough to lose it.”

The result ended a run of three straight wins for the Dorset club in all competitions. Cherries have picked up 49 points from 26 Championship contests.

Parker’s men take on Hull in their next Saturday.
