CHERRIES boss Scott Parker revealed how he gave his side a “little bit” of a history lesson ahead of overcoming renowned FA Cup giant killers Yeovil Town on Saturday.

An Emiliano Marcondes hat-trick earned the Dorset side a 3-1 victory in Somerset, with Joe Quigley’s second-half goal proving consolation for Darren Sarll’s Glovers.

Yeovil had gone into the contest having knocked out more league teams as a non-league outfit than anyone else in the competition.

Asked whether he had to give his changed-up team a history lesson ahead of the cup tie, Parker said: “A little bit. I explained what you need in these games.

“It was not about quality, it was about attitude, how you approach this game and what attitude you bring to this game. You have to have some humility and understand that this is a tough game.

“The fans are coming here for an upset. You could see the effort and commitment that Yeovil came with.

“Upsets come and bad performances come against these teams from attitude, commitment and not understanding what we needed to bring.

“That’s what pleased me. The other side of the game – we needed to match their commitment and I thought we did that.

“In the end the quality does come. You see that from our goals, Emi’s finishes and there is no denying you have that bit extra in certain moments.

“You only get that bit extra when you walk out there, cross that line and understand first and foremost I am going to have to match these boys for commitment and we did that.”

Parker made 10 changes for the contest, including handing a debut to youngster Nathan Moriah-Welsh at right-back.

He added: “It was a young team. We have got a young team, there is no denying that, we have got to be one of the youngest in the division.

“But I think what pleases me the most is I know, in 20 years of playing, you guys know, what Yeovil away in an FA Cup tie is going to bring.

“The cameras were here for an upset and young players, who have never experienced that really, it can be a bit daunting and be tough, but they did very well and I was pleased.”
