A HAT-TRICK from Emiliano Marcondes sent Cherries into the fourth round of this season’s FA Cup.

The all-action midfielder played a starring role with three goals for the Dorset outfit, as they overcame non-league Yeovil Town 3-1 at Huish Park.

Former Brentford man Marcondes netted his first goals since August to put Scott Parker’s side two ahead at the break in Somerset.

A moment to forget for Orjan Nyland allowed ex-Cherries youngster Joe Quigley the chance to pull a goal back for Darren Sarll’s men, before Marcondes rubber-stamped the win for the visitors.

Parker’s men will find out their next opponents in the competition on Sunday evening.

Both sides were hit with COVID-19 disruption ahead of the contest, with Cherries having to call off their previous Championship fixture against Peterborough due to positive cases and injuries.

The visitors made 10 changes in total for the trip to Somerset, handing a debut to Nathan Moriah-Welsh at right-back. Only Jaidon Anthony survived from the 3-0 victory over Cardiff last time out.

Full-back Tarik Gidaree, a member of the club’s development squad, was on the bench for Cherries. The National League Glovers, 82 places below Cherries in the football pyramid, started their campaign in the fourth qualifying round back in October.

They saw off Weymouth, Yate Town and Stevenage to reach round three.

Former Cherries youngsters Quigley and Matt Worthington were named in the hosts’ starting XI.

And the cup tie began with a crunching challenge with just three minutes gone. Dale Gorman’s tackle on Morgan Rogers earned him a booking from referee Jeremy Simpson.

Worthington was the next to be put into the book. He tripped up Jamal Lowe to thwart a counter-attack for the visitors.

But the first sight of goal came for the Glovers with 10 minutes gone. After a foul on the edge of the box, midfielder Gorman hammered the ball over the bar on the angle and into the away fans.

With their first attack of the game, Cherries took the lead in simplistic fashion on 19 minutes.

After receiving a pass from Moriah-Welsh, skipper for the night Chris Mepham’s precise long ball found the run of Marcondes, who kept calm to apply a cool finish into the bottom corner.

Cherries could have had a second moments later. Anthony’s deep cross evaded everyone and clipped the far post before bouncing to safety.

The hosts continued to test Cherries with deliveries into the penalty area, but it was that man Marcondes who doubled the advantage for the away side with 43 minutes on the clock.

Anthony cut inside from the right and played a precise through ball into the attacking midfielder, who arrowed an effort past keeper Dillon Barnes into the corner of the net.

But it was a nightmare for Cherries keeper Orjan Nyland which put the tie back in the balance swiftly after the break.

After Mepham played the ball back to the Norwegian, he was challenged by a sliding Tom Knowles with the ball falling for Quigley to tap home in front of the home fans for 2-1.

Despite the home side having their tails up, Cherries almost found a third with 25 minutes left. Mepham beat his man from centre-back and threaded the ball through for Lowe.

Bearing down on goal, the frontman’s effort was denied by his fellow Jamaican international Barnes.

There was no denying Marcondes on the day however, as he wrapped up his hat-trick with 20 minutes to play.

After Lowe’s initial effort was saved, the Dane found himself in the right position to turn in the rebound and send Cherries into round four.

Brennan Camp's dramatic late block kept Cherries' two-goal lead in tact with the final moment of the game.
