EDDIE Howe is eyeing up a reunion with Lloyd Kelly at Newcastle next month, according to a report by the Daily Mail.

Howe signed Kelly for £13million from Bristol City, whilst in charge of Cherries in May 2019.

Injury wrecked the talented defender's only season under Howe's stewardship, featuring just nine times before the boss left the club in August 2020.

But, the Mail claim Howe has presented Kelly among a list of names he would like his new club Newcastle to pursue in the upcoming January transfer window.

Howe joined Premier League strugglers Newcastle last month, registering his first win in charge during Saturday's clash with former club Burnley.

They sit 19th in the table, but could have significant funds to spend next month, following October's takeover by Saudi Arabian consortium PIF.

The report in the Mail details how the Magpies are looking to appoint a "short-term football recruitment advisor" to aid with January transfers.

It goes on to say how in a meeting at the club last week, Howe offered potential targets they could look to sign, which included Kelly, German centre-back Matthias Ginter, Joe Rodon of Tottenham and Arsenal's Mohamed Elneny.

Should Kelly make a move to Tyneside, he would link up with former Cherries teammates Ryan Fraser and Callum Wilson.

The 23-year-old has played a key role at Cherries this season under Scott Parker, captaining the side in each of their first 17 Championship fixtures.

He has missed the past four matches with a quad injury, during which time Cherries have picked up just three points.

Upon signing in 2019, Kelly penned a "long-term contract" at Cherries.
