DANYON Hume thanked his family for making his double dream a reality with Pirates – having admitted he had taken over his dad’s garage in the process!

The former Leicester Lion Cub was drafted in as Pirates’ rising star rider at reserve for the 2021 campaign.

His improvement on his average saw him work his way into the main body of the team during the latter stages of the year.

Hume played a key role in helping Poole seal the Championship Knockout Cup and SGB Championship titles.

But he insists without those closest to him, it would not have been possible.

He said: “My girlfriend has travelled to near enough every meeting with me. I have literally taken over my dad’s garage!

“Without these guys behind me, none of this would be possible, so thank you to my family, friends and sponsors and a massive thank you to this team.

“To be honest, to lift cups with these guys and to ride for Poole is a massive achievement in itself.

“What we have done has sealed it for me. I am speechless… it has been an awesome season and for it to be Rory’s (Schlein’s) last season, we have sent him off with a bang.”
