THREE penalties ultimately decided Poole Town’s away trip to Walton Casuals, but Dolphins should not have had to rely on spot-kicks after dominating large periods of their 4-2 victory.

Bolstered by the midweek signings of Southampton youngster Teddy Davey and goalkeeper Tommy Scott, Poole were gifted a two-goal lead when Walton felled Tony Lee and Will Spetch in the box.

Lee duly stepped up on both occasions to convert the penalties.

But despite the two-goal cushion and majority of the chances, Poole never looked too comfortable against a resurgent Walton side.

Full-back Mitchal Gough pulled one back before the break but Dolphins continued their dominance into the second period.

A goal-line scramble ended-up with Lee poking home for his hat-trick, before Davey was felled in the box after storming away on the counter.

Lee stepped up for a third time, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way for his 19th Southern League goal of the season.

Despite a resounding lead Poole again allowed Walton a way back into the game, but Lee Morrison’s goal only served as a consolation for the hosts.

“We’re frustrated still with the two goals we’ve conceded,” admitted Dolphins boss Tom Killick.

“It’s funny – we went to 2-0, and then we had Tony was clean through and we thought out of all the penalties that was almost the most clear cut!

“It would have been a red-card probably, but they then went down the other end and scored, which kept them in the game.

“Then, we’ve done it again in the second half. I feel you can’t underestimate the pressure we were under here to get a result under two league defeats. I feel we responded well. We’ve still got people unavailable.

“Tommy (Scott) has come in and done really well, our captain (Jamie) Whisken is out, Jack Dickson is out, Dan Bartlett is out.

“Tony probably wasn’t 100 per cent, the same for Luke Holmes and Josh Carmichael. I think against that background, it is so pleasing to get the win, and hopefully get some confidence going.”
