MIDFIELDER Lewis Cook insisted it was good to see “leader” Steve Cook back on the pitch for Cherries on Wednesday.

The Cherries club captain has been left out of Scott Parker’s Championship squads this season.

The only time the club legend has featured in the first team came in a 6-0 defeat to Norwich City in the Carabao Cup.

But having spent time with the commanding centre-back behind the scenes in recent weeks, Lewis Cook admitted he was pleased to see Steve feature during the 1-1 Premier League Cup draw against Arsenal.

Asked about Steve Cook by the Daily Echo, Lewis Cook said: “Everyone knows what he’s like and how much the club means to him.

“He went out on Wednesday and showed the type of character he is. He put on a great performance and has been a leader out there, which he is.

“I have spent a lot of time with him recently and things, so it’s good to see him back on the pitch as well.”

Taking to Twitter after his return to match action, Steve Cook posted: “Really good to get 90 mins in tonight. Missed playing at the Vitality. Nice to see so many come out the cheer on the lads. Also great to see @lewiscook_ return.”
