CHERRIES playmaker David Brooks has withdrawn from the Wales squad through illness.

The country confirmed both the attacking-midfielder and Tottenham full-back Ben Davies have been forced to withdraw from boss Rob Page’s group.

Brooks’s withdrawal means he will miss World Cup qualifiers against Czech Republic and Estonia.

A post on the Wales official Twitter account read: “Ben Davies and David Brooks have had to withdraw from the squad due to illness.”

Wales are already without injured captain Gareth Bale, who had been due to win his 100th cap in Prague, and defenders Rhys Norrington-Davies and Tom Lockyer.

Brooks has started seven Championship games for Cherries this season, but has only been selected once in their past four outings.

He was an unused substitute as Scott Parker’s side overcame his former club Sheffield United at Vitality Stadium on Saturday.

The Warrington-born 24-year-old has played 21 times for Wales at senior level, scoring two goals.

Cherries do still have representation in the Dragons’ squad, with centre-half Chris Mepham in the group during the international break.
