CHERRIES maintained their unbeaten start to the Championship season as Scott Parker's side was forced to settle for a point at Hull City.

In-form frontman Dominic Solanke was denied by goalkeeper Matt Ingram in both halves in a game where chances were at a premium.

Orjan Nyland had a largely quiet afternoon at MKM Stadium on his league debut bar a nervous period before the break.

Greg Docherty saw Hull's best chance bounce out off the crossbar before Emiliano Marcondes lacked the composure to score a decisive goal for Cherries.

Boss Parker rang the changes following the midweek mauling at Carrow Road.

Nyland, Ben Pearson, David Brooks and Marcondes were the only survivors from Wednesday’s humbling Carabao Cup defeat against Norwich.

Jack Stacey made his return from injury to feature in the starting XI. This allowed Chris Mepham to slot into his preferred position in the heart of the defence having deputised at right-back in the past couple of league games.

Jefferson Lerma came straight into the side after serving his six-game ban, while Gary Cahill was named among the substitutes in his first matchday squad since joining the club. There was no room for Steve Cook in the 18.

Mark Travers and Philip Billing were both absent through illness.

Solanke had the first real chance of the game 18 minutes in after a cagey start. A corner was whipped in but the England international directed his downward header straight at the Ingram.

The frontman created another fine opportunity for himself around the half-hour mark. He held off his man before rifling a low shot towards goal, which was parried clear by the Hull goalkeeper.

Stacey went into the book for bringing down Keane Lewis-Potter down the host’s left flank. Callum Elder’s free-kick was scurried out for a corner before Cherries finally cleared their lines to go in level at the break.

Cherries continued to press for an opener after half-time. Marcondes found space and sent the ball across the face of goal, however, no one in a white shirt was on hand to tap home.

At the other end, Docherty's header cannoned off the crossbar in a precarious moment for the visitors.

The game had suddenly picked up pace and it was Solanke again who was denied by Ingram after the former Wycombe man passed the ball straight to the striker.

Loanee Morgan Rogers replaced David Brooks in the 66th minute to make his league debut for Cherries.

Minutes later full-back Jordan Zemura set up Marcondes for an excellent chance. The summer signing blazed over after great work by the Zimbabwe international.

Substitute Randell Williams clipped a long-range effort wide of target late on for Hull.

The draw left Cherries with nine points from their opening five games heading into the international break.
