SCOTT Parker declared himself "immensely proud" of his young Cherries side, after registering his first league win as boss.

Cherries defeated Nottingham Forest 2-1 at the City Ground thanks to goals from David Brooks and Philip Billing.

That was despite the visitors having to play the final 30 minutes with 10 men, after Brooks was sent off following two bookable offences.

Discussing the victory, Parker said: "It was a game of twists and turns. It was a game with 11 men where we had to try and assert ourselves with our quality in the way we played.

"I thought we did that very, very well. Coming to a place here which was rocking. Fans here for the first time, apart from their cup game in the week.

"And I thought with 11 men we did very well. You’re analysing the game from my behalf a little bit differently.

"Then you get a man sent off, which was very, very disappointing and you have to show another side to you really.

"That side is one which is a desperation to keep the ball out your net, a desperation to hold onto the three points and I thought the boys did that very, very well."

He added: "I think we’ll stand here for a lot of games this year, or certainly some of them and with 11 men we’re going to be saying, you’ve had to show resilience there.

"I think that game was probably West Brom on Friday night (2-2 draw). They put us under it and we stood up to that.

"And again, with 10 men today we’ve stood up to it. And in this division, you know too well that’s what you’ve got to show. It’s a relentless league, they put you under pressure a lot and I thought for large parts we did very, very well."

Asked how proud he was of his team for holding onto their narrow lead for the final half an hour, Parker said: "I’m immensely proud. Not just because of the way we went about it, but you look at this team out there today and you look at this squad and the bench as well, this is a young side with an average age of 23.

"They are kids, some of these. They are experiencing this for the first time in the arena.

"What they are experiencing there, it is the first time they have experienced it. It’s on the main stage, it’s in the main league. I thought they dealt with that very, very well."
