SCOTT Parker said a “good open relationship” with Cherries’ recruitment chiefs was important in identifying the right targets for the club.

The Cherries boss last week insisted he had contact by the hour over bringing in new faces to Vitality Stadium, as he looks to bolster his squad ahead of the summer transfer window.

Parker was appointed as head coach at the Dorset club in June, with technical director Richard Hughes, assistant technical director Simon Francis and the rest of Cherries’ recruitment department tasked with identifying and securing transfer targets.

Asked what his relationship was like with Hughes and Francis, Parker told the Daily Echo: “Really good.

“Daily contact with these guys, both guys understand the dynamics of football teams and what you need in different teams.

“Recruitment is one of the hardest things to nail really. If there is one thing Bournemouth have had a very good track record for is recruitment – they have recruited very, very well.

“Like I said, it’s sometimes not about a cheque book or how much you bring in a player (for). It’s the dynamics of what different squads need at different moments really.

“My relationship with all those guys and that daily contact has been brilliant.”

Since Parker’s arrival, Cherries have recruited Emiliano Marcondes on a free transfer from Brentford, as well as the loan signing of full-back Leif Davis from Leeds United.

Asked how much of a say he got on transfers as head coach, Parker replied: “A lot.

“I don’t want the day-to-day of speaking to agents, the day-to-day of contracts or this and that. I have enough trying to develop the team.

“First and foremost, I am the head coach and I want to coach the team.

“But in saying that, of course, a relationship and a good open relationship – and an honest one – with Richard, Simon and Neill (Blake, chief executive), is vitally important because I’m seeing things on a day-to-day basis.

“I understand the squad, I know what, at times, we are going to need and what we don’t need, so my input into that is crucial and they are very open with that as well - as well as me taking their experiences and how good they are.

“If they know a player more than I do and they are recommending someone, then their track record has told me to listen to that really, and that’s what I will do.”
