JAIDON Anthony marked a first Cherries start with a Sky Sports man of the match award and said of his assist for Emiliano Marcondes’ early opener: “We’ve been working on that a lot in training, it’s a little bit sweeter when you’ve really worked on that specific pattern of play.”

Head coach Scott Parker’s side twice lead during a 2-2 draw with West Brom but were pegged back, with the debuting Dane’s opener coming after just 12 minutes courtesy of a square ball by Anthony.

The 21-year-old forward had made appearances from Cherries’ bench in the Championship last season and started in the recent 5-0 win over MK Dons, but was awarded his first league start by Parker and instantly repaid him.

Anthony was also involved in Phillip Billing’s goal after he laid off left-back Jordan Zemura, whose cross was parried into the Danish midfielder’s path.

Mepham believes Cherries will 'only get better'

The former Arsenal academy man will be hoping for another Cherries start at Nottingham Forest, amid the uncertain future of Arnaut Danjuma, when they visit on Saturday August 14.

Speaking after his first start, Anthony told the club website: “I said before it’s what we work for as players, these are the moments we dream of.”

“We’ve been working hard a lot last season and this season, it’s a special day. Yeah you don’t think about it (the award) during the game but after you can look back and say that’s special, I’m really happy.

“I spent a lot of time last season being in around the squad and watching the older guys do their stuff. I feel like this season I’ve taken on board what I’ve learnt and I’m really looking to push on really.

“I want more nights like this and hopefully being on the end of a win, that will make it even more special.

“As a team we just want to be successful, keep improving every day and see where it takes us. For me I just want to keep pushing, working hard and giving my all for the team every time I get an opportunity. I’m sure that’ll put me in a good position.”

When asked about his creation for Marcondes’ opener, Anthony revealed how it was something Parker, Matt Wells and the rest of the coaching staff had them working on at the training ground.

The ball seemed to travel in slow motion across the Baggies’ box, but evaded those who were sprinting back towards goal while strong striker Dominic Solanke muscled one reactionary defender away from the pass.

This left Marcondes with a free left-footed strike to pull low under David Button.

Anthony added: “We’ve been working on that a lot in training so it’s nice that it came off, Emi was in the perfect position and it was a great finish.

“Yeah like you say it’s a little bit sweeter when you’ve really worked on that specific pattern of play and it’s come off in a game the way you want it to.

“It’s a good point, we came into the game wanting to win it. But they are a great side who have come down from the Premier League last season so it will be a good point with a long season ahead.”
