BOSS Scott Parker insisted promising full-back Jordan Zemura had done “very well in a short space of time” and urged him to “take that next leap” at Cherries.

The 21-year-old came off the bench to replace Jack Stacey, following an injury after just 41 minutes against MK Dons last Saturday.

Left-back Zemura helped the Dorset club seal a 5-0 victory in the Carabao Cup contest.

And with Cherries set to make a late call on Stacey’s quad injury, as well as Leeds loanee Leif Davis not yet being ready to feature, Zemura could be set for a starting berth against West Bromwich Albion in the Championship tomorrow (7.45pm).

Asked about working with the defender, Parker told the Daily Echo: “He’s done very well in a short space of time.

“An attacking full-back and has really impressed me in that sense. He’s still young in his age and young in experience.

“But I suspect he’s going to get game time this year and hopefully he can grab that with both hands and take that next leap, which is from a player that is developing or a player that’s getting bits of games, to one which can really grasp that.

“Hopefully he can do that.”

Zemura signed a fresh contract at Cherries in December, while enjoying a breakthrough campaign at Vitality Stadium last season.

He had spent time in the youth ranks at Queens Park Rangers and Charlton before joining the Dorset club at the end of the 2018-19 campaign, following a successful trial spell.

The Lambeth-born youngster has also gone on to represent Zimbabwe at international level.

Asked about the ambition of Zemura, Parker said: “I see that daily. Like any young player, they need an opportunity or at least they need to feel there is an opportunity there.

“I think with me here, every young player at this football club needs to understand there is an opportunity there if they prove their worth and prove that they are good enough.

“So hopefully he has that feeling and he can get some minutes.”
