BOSS Scott Parker praised David Brooks's response to early misses against MK Dons to end the game with a brace, adding: "I have someone that comes out every day that wants to improve."

Brooks wasted two presentable chances on his favoured left foot as Cherries looked for a breakthrough against the League One opposition during Saturday's Carabao Cup contest at Vitality Stadium.

But he brilliantly volleyed home with his right foot to open the scoring, before wrapping up the 5-0 win with another clinical finish late on.

And Parker was happy the 24-year-old did not let those early misses affect him.

The Cherries boss told the Daily Echo: "I was pleased for him, because I thought he started the game poorly.

"He’s missed a couple of very, very big chances, good chances. I’ve been in the arena, in those moments you can sometimes shirk away from responsibility and maybe feel a bit sorry for yourself that it's not your day.

"The one he does put away is an unbelievable finish. You would arguably say the ones before it are much easier than that, so fair play to David and then second half again, he’s in the right place.

"It’s a lovely finish. He gets his two goals. It’s a good Saturday afternoon for him in terms of that, so I’m pleased."

Brooks has been hampered by injury and illness over the past couple of seasons, and has also regularly been linked with a move away from Cherries.

But Parker is encouraged by early signs he has seen from the Wales international, since he returned for pre-season training under the new boss last month.

"In terms of the way we play, this is a player that can beat men one v one," said Parker.

"Can we get the ball to him in those advanced areas where he can be deadly?

"He’s been first-class, David. Still loads of improvement. I see someone still young in his ways, technical ability really, really good.

"The finer details of his game we need to clean up.

"But I have someone who looks me in the eye, I have someone that comes out every day that wants to improve and wants to get better.

"When you sit here as a coach, that’s all you want. You want coachable players.

"You want players who are responsive and just want to get better and in David I’ve got that. So I suspect him to continue in those footsteps going forward really."
