NEW boss Scott Parker insists there is quality within Cherries’ ranks but confirmed the club would be targeting some player additions within the coming weeks.

The 40-year-old arrived at Vitality Stadium as head coach last Monday, after leaving former club Fulham by mutual consent.

Cherries swooped to bring in Emiliano Marcondes on a free transfer on Saturday, following the expiration of his contract at Brentford.

And with Cherries at present having lost the likes of loanees Cameron Carter-Vickers, Shane Long and Rodrigo Riquelme from last season, as well as out-of-contract Junior Stanislas, Jack Wilshere and Adam Smith, the boss admits the club will be looking to reinforce.

Asked whether his squad was equipped to compete for promotion and whether he expected many additions, Parker replied: “We have quality. Of course there is, there is one thing I realise, is there is no one name on a team-sheet and one thing you feel is the big quality, it’s an irrelevance really.

“Certainly, in this division, what’s vitally important is a group of players, a squad of players that are willing to do everything in their powers for the team and for the team to be successful – that’s key for us.

“While we have quality, what’s more important for me is trying to get a group of men together that have one aim. That aim is for us as a football club, is to be successful and move forward.

“Regarding the squad, it’s clear we are going to need some additions – of course we are.

“We miss six or seven players from last season that have left the club, so in terms of the squad, that’s light.

“But I think every football club in this present moment will be saying the same thing, every manager will be saying the same thing really.

“Over the next couple of weeks and a few days, we can try to add some more quality to the squad and keep going from there really.”

Former England midfielder Parker spent two full seasons as head coach at Fulham, having guided them to promotion via the Championship play-offs before seeing them relegated from the Premier League last season.

But he admits despite the swift change of clubs for the upcoming campaign, he is full of enthusiasm for what lies ahead on the south coast.

“I’m excited about the next challenge,” he added.

“I’m very proud to sit in this chair and try to help the football club move forward.

“It’s a change but a change I am looking forward to and one I am hoping to be successful.”
