CHIEF executive Neill Blake described as a “huge coup” the signing of highly sought-after free agent Emiliano Marcondes and added: “He will be an excellent addition.”

The 26-year-old attacking midfielder was this morning confirmed as a Cherries player, signing a three-year deal following the expiration of his contract at Brentford.

Nottingham Forest were reportedly linked with the former Denmark under-21 international, who made 97 appearances for the Bees and helped them reach the Premier League via the play-offs.

Blake said: “To be able to sign a player of Emiliano’s quality on a free transfer is a huge coup for the club.

“Unsurprisingly, we were in competition with a number of other clubs so I’m delighted that he has chosen AFC Bournemouth for the next stage of his career.

“Emiliano is proven at this level, knows what it takes to win and has experience of the biggest games and securing promotion.

“He will be an excellent addition to our squad and add real competition in an important area of the pitch.”

Marcondes becomes new head coach Scott Parker’s first summer signing less than a week into the job at Vitality Stadium.

Born in Hvidovre, he scored in Brentford’s play-off final victory over Swansea City in May and was named man of the match.
