GOALKEEPER Aaron Ramsdale insists he would be comfortable playing out from the back in an England shirt – having been used to doing so at Cherries.

The stopper, who played 37 times for Cherries during the 2019-20 campaign, was a late call-up to Gareth Southgate's group for Euro 2020.

The Sheffield United star was last week drafted in to replace Dean Henderson, who withdrew due to a hip injury.

He was on the bench for the Three Lions as they sealed a 1-0 victory over Czech Republic to top Group D.

Ramsdale, who departed Cherries last summer, was in Bournemouth on holiday when he heard the news he would be required to step in while Henderson's injury was assessed.

And the 23-year-old insists he has all the attributes to suit England’s style if called upon.

Asked whether he was comfortable playing out from the back, the keeper replied: “Yeah, at Bournemouth that was the style of play we played with.

“In the England youth ranks I've done it for the past four or five years now.

“Obviously it's a different sort of style at Sheffield United, but towards the end of the season I was allowed to express myself a little bit more and that is something I can deal with.

“But I also like switching it up, a lot like Jordan (Pickford) does. He doesn't worry about overplaying. He'll go long in situations and you have to be adaptable and I think that's what I am.”

England are looking to go deep into the tournament, with their last 16 tie set to take place at Wembley on Tuesday.

Asked whether he felt ready to make his England debut in a high pressure tournament situation if called upon, the former Cherries star said: “Yeah. It's a game of football.

“I've been told this throughout my career, I've played in pressure games before - it's a green football pitch with lines on and two goals.

“I'll be ready for any experience. You never know you're ready until you're in that moment.

“In myself I'm confident and, if I somehow get the chance to get called upon, I'll be absolutely delighted and be ready to take it with both hands.”
