THE ambulance service has released a video message ahead of England's Euro clash with Scotland, calling for people across the region to drink sensibly.

In the video, Ed Hill, lead paramedic for South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust, said: "Like everyone right now, we are supporting our favourite team and have our fingers crossed for a win.

"But during these times of celebration we see a significant rise in the number of calls that we are receiving to our 999 services.

"And this can have a huge impact on how long some people are going to wait for an emergency ambulance.

"If you are going out and drinking alcohol, please drink to your limits and don't drink to excess."

England and Scotland meet in a major tournament for the first time in 25 years at Wembley this evening.

Gareth Southgate's England will qualify for the knockout stage with a win while Scotland are seeking to keep their hopes of progressing alive.

There will be a maximum of 22,500 fans at Wembley for the 8pm kickoff, 25 per cent of its capacity, to witness the 115th meeting between the two footballing nations, and their 100th in a competitive fixture.
