BOSS Jonathan Woodgate labelled David Brooks's "unbelievable" display against Millwall as "his best performance since I've been here".

Brooks shone against the Lions, with his performance capped by a fine run and finish to score his sixth goal of the season.

The Welshman almost added a second late on, striking the post after breaking forwards from midfield as Cherries cruised to a 4-1 victory.

It has been an up and down season for the 23-year-old, who has been hampered at times by both injury and illness, as well as a mid-season dip in form.

But after his latest lay-off, Brooks now appears to be getting back to his best, starting for the past five games in succession.

He is yet to complete 90 minutes since returning from his latest setback earlier this month, but stood out during his 85-minute display at The Den, before being replaced by Adam Smith.

Discussing Brooks's display, Woodgate told the Daily Echo: "It was his best performance since I’ve been here.

"I thought he was unbelievable, some of the stuff he was doing.

"But it was his out of possession which really caught my eye, because his talent is never in doubt.

"His work-rate was outstanding. That’s the thing I was really pleased with, how quick he was to try and regain the ball when he lost it.

"I thought he was very good. I tried to keep him on for the 90 minutes, but he got some good minutes under his belt."

Speaking to the Cherries website earlier this month, Brooks said: "I’m probably my biggest critic, I just haven’t been good enough this season.

"With everything that’s gone on, I’m the first one who’s trying to rectify that.

"I want to try to get better and try to help the team earn promotion. My aim is to help the team the best I can.

"Goals and assists will come once you start getting in the right places, but I just want to perform well and help the team in every aspect."

The goals have come back for Brooks in recent weeks, also netting against Coventry City before his strike in south east London this week.

One player who has started each of the past five games alongside Brooks is striker Dominic Solanke.

Solanke provided the assist for Brooks's goal at The Den, sending him scampering down the right flank with a through ball, before seeing the talented playmaker cut infield and slot home.

Speaking about that goal after the win, Solanke told the Daily Echo: "Brooksy is a fantastic player so it was good to see him get his goal and I think he enjoyed that one as well."

Brooks will hope to be involved again when Cherries host fellow promotion hopefuls Brentford on Saturday (12.30pm).
