BRENNAN Camp expressed his “relief” after breaking his Weymouth duck in the 4-0 thrashing of Wealdstone on Saturday.

Cherries loanee right-back Camp, 20, put the Terras 2-0 up with a composed volley from 12 yards.

Having come close to scoring a number of times this season, his strike ended a 44-game wait for a maiden goal.

Born in Dorchester and raised in Portland, Camp is one of a handful of local players plying their trade at the Terras.

And the former Magpies loanee joked his teammates were more pleased than him after he was mobbed in the goal celebrations.

“I’ve been waiting a long time for that one,” he told the Dorset Echo.

“I could’ve scored again but I’ll take that one. I try and get myself forward as much as I can, especially playing at right-back.

“The ball just fell to me, I’ve got a good contact and luckily for me it’s gone in.

“I think you can tell by my celebration the relief when it went in.

“Before I joined in my past few years at Bournemouth I’ve actually scored quite a few goals.

“To not get one this far in playing for Weymouth has been a bit annoying.

“I always knew if I kept getting forward and had chances then I’d put one away.”

Camp revealed banter from teammates had been rife as his quest for a first goal went on.

He said: “They’ve given me a bit of stick this season because I haven’t scored.

“I think some of them were more happy than I was! That was good to see.

“All that matters was that we won the game.”
