CHERRIES centre-half Cameron Carter-Vickers revealed his delight in working under Jonathan Woodgate and said: “When the manager believes in you, it helps you believe in yourself.”

The Tottenham loanee has not missed a minute since the new Cherries head coach succeeded Jason Tindall last month – playing the entirety of his nine games in charge.

Carter-Vickers has played under a range of different managers throughout various spells in his career.

He made his senior Spurs debut with Mauricio Pochettino in charge of the north London outfit.

The United States international has also worked under Graham Potter and Chris Wilder, during loan spells with Swansea and Sheffield United respectively.

Head coach Woodgate last week told the Daily Echo he was looking at signing Carter-Vickers for Middlesbrough this season - before he was sacked at the Riverside.

And the 23-year-old insisted that gave him the belief to perform at his highest level at Cherries.

Carter-Vickers told the Daily Echo: “It’s important. I think when the manager believes in you, it helps you believe in yourself.

“It helps you keep trying to perform and you really don’t want to disappoint him.

“You want to keep performing for him and proving him right.

“I think he’s been really good.”

Woodgate represented the likes of Leeds, Newcastle and Real Madrid as a centre-back during his own playing career, as well as winning eight caps at senior level for England.

Asked what it was like to learn from the former Boro boss, Carter-Vickers replied: “It’s been really good. Sometimes it’s almost the simple things that you forget as a player.

“That’s where he’s come in and helped me, helped the other defenders and the whole team really to remember that stuff.

“He talks about the details that help you win games in this division and I think that’s been really important for us in the past few weeks. I think it will be going forward.”

Carter-Vickers is expected to be involved when Cherries host Barnsley in the Championship on Saturday (3pm).
