HARRY Redknapp revealed he put ex-Manchester United star Roy Keane’s name forward when Cherries were searching for a new manager.

The former Cherries boss insisted he would like to see former Republic of Ireland midfielder Keane get back into management – and said he had suggested him to the Dorset club.

Keane, 49, had managed the likes of Sunderland and Ipswich before being the assistant with the Republic of Ireland, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest.

Speaking about Keane on MUTV’s Group Chat, Redknapp said: “I love him, I like listening to him and what a player he was as well.

“I’d like to see him get back into management, to be honest with you.

“When the Bournemouth job came up, I actually stuck his name up there. I mentioned him to the people there.

“I said ‘what about Roy Keane?’ I thought maybe he’d mellowed a bit.”

Redknapp had also given his advice to Jonathan Woodgate during his caretaker spell at Cherries – the former England defender has now been appointed as head coach until the end of the season.

“It’s a great club for someone to manage. Woody is in there – I hope Woody keeps it,” added Redknapp.

“But it would have been a good job for sure for someone. It’s not the worst place to live either.”
