JONATHAN Woodgate says his work during lockdown last year has paid off in the form of Cameron Carter-Vickers.

The centre-back has played every minute since Woodgate took charge of the team last month, and struck his first goal for the club, bagging a late winner in victory over Bristol City on Wednesday evening.

Before this run of games, the USA international had featured just three times for Cherries since arriving on loan from Tottenham in October.

"He was injured under Jason (Tindall), so Jason hadn’t really had the chance to put him in," Woodgate told the Daily Echo.

"But when I got interim job I just thought to myself, I know him, I’ve watched loads of him in March and April in lockdown.

"I watched absolutely tonnes of his games from this season and the season before, so I knew what I was getting with him, that’s the thing.

"So me doing all that recruitment work paid me back, because I knew exactly what I was getting with Cam.

"It’s what it says on the tin with Cam, you know exactly what you’re going to get week in, week out and I like that in a centre-back."

Woodgate added: "He’s a nice guy. I’ve had meetings with the back four regularly to try and help them improve and get better, but he’s fine.

"He wants to listen, he wants to learn. I’ve got no problem with that at all.

"He’s a good lad, good kid. I’m enjoying working with him."
