JONATHAN Woodgate explained his thinking behind bringing "good man" Joe Jordan onto his coaching staff at Cherries, describing his experience as "vital".

Cherries officially confirmed Jordan's arrival today, joining as part of the first-team coaching staff.

He is the second new man through the door this week, with former Portsmouth ace Gary O'Neil also coming in to bolster the backroom group, which still includes Stephen Purches, Simon Weatherstone and Steve Fletcher.

Jordan, 69, arrives with a wealth of experience in the game.

Capped 52 times by Scotland during his playing career, Jordan turned out for a host of clubs including Leeds, Man Utd and AC Milan.

He then moved into coaching, working under Harry Redknapp at Portsmouth and then Tottenham, where Woodgate was playing at the time.

Jordan also worked with Woodgate when the pair were on the coaching staff at Middlesbrough in 2017.

He was in the stands to watch last night's 2-1 home defeat by Cardiff City.

Discussing the Scot's arrival, Woodgate told the Daily Echo: "With Joe Jordan, I think he will be an astute signing for us. He brings that experience in the group and I think that’s vital.

"I think that’s really important, I think that’s good for us.

"I was with Joe when I was at Spurs as a player. He was the assistant manager then to Harry and then at Middlesbrough.

"I know Joe. He’s someone I can trust, I can rely on and he’s a good man."
