JONATHAN Woodgate was left frustrated with his side's work in the final third against Cardiff, insisting: "It's impossible to break a team down like that."

Cherries were beaten 2-1 at Vitality Stadium, with a Sean Morrison header and Kieffer Moore penalty doing the damage.

Shane Long pulled a goal back in the second half, but it came in vain.

Discussing the narrow defeat, boss Woodgate said: "Frustrating, because we did have chances. The keeper made a good save, especially first half. And then second half we started upping the tempo a bit, we made a few changes. But we need to be more ruthless in the box.

"You can’t always go through the middle of a team. You’ve got to get the ball wide and work it wide and then get it in the box.

"You can’t just constantly start always going through the middle of them because they’re difficult to break down with the three. They bring the wing-backs in, they have the three in midfield and it’s difficult to break down.

"Going in there 2-0 at half-time, I thought the reaction of the players in the second half was better. They didn’t give up. They kept on going.

He added: "We need to get the ball wide, but we weren’t doing it. We were constantly trying to go through the middle of the team. It’s impossible to break a team down like that.

"You’re looking for perfect goals. Get the ball wide and get it in the box, you’ve got two strikers in there."
